Issey Miyake continues his quiet but revolutionary investigation into the male form, and the intersection of technology and fashion. As an alternative to the ‘Pleat’s Please’ collection for women launched back in 1993, the Japanese master has now launched Homme Plissé, a capsule collection pushing the possibilities of pleaded fabric into a contemporary menswear silhouette. The pleaded polyester does not wrinkle, crease or constrict – and can be folded and washed as you like. The techwear-y garments posses such a sci-fi sculptural quality that the people over at Canadian webshop Ssense invited video artist Thomas Traum to play with it in a magical CGI setting – not only is this a wonderfully merging of art and commerce, it also left us craving to get our hands on it ourselves. Oh, well – the wonders of promotional communication!
