If we’ve learned one thing, it’s than some chance encounters are more productive than others, and then they are, it’s important to stick to each other and procreate. This seems to be exactly what has happened between Danish street brand Soulland and visual artist Karl Monies, leading to a unisex capsule collection of a shirt and t-shirt. Born in Denmark, Monies is celebrated for his vibrant, craft-oriented wall-based works, a vision developed while assisting noted painter Tal R, as well as studies in Guangzhou, London, and Bangkok. With the Soulland collaboration, the duo is reviving his Comforts series, a textually rich collection of collage-style works adopting patchwork techniques onto the painterly medium. As such, Monies writes himself into a long textile history of craftsmanship and color narratives in fabric – while translating them onto a shirt makes the 2d-3d-2d transformation come full circle. Soulland and Monies will mark the launch of the collaboration Thursday the 31st at Copenhagen fashion store HOLLY GOLIGHTLY, from 6-8 pm – so head on down and grab your example of a wearable work of art.
